Heather West is a mother of five children with her late husband, Nathan West. The four boys and one girl were ages ten down to one when he passed away, at the age of thirty-eight. She met her late husband in college where she earned a double major in business and psychology.
Heather owns a bail bonding company serving the Central Florida region, where she resides. She has spent the last 20+ years serving thousands of inmates and their families through this business. She is also a real estate investor. This is her first book.
Our lives changed forever one week after our fifth child was born January of 2018. We learned the slightly painful spot on my thirty-eight year old husband's tongue was cancer, words you never want to hear.
We had a successful surgery to remove the pencil-sized Squamous Cell Carcinoma from his tongue and life resumed as normal. Nathan (Nate) and I celebrated our Fifteenth wedding anniversary that summer. In September of the same year, we felt a lump in his neck. The cancer had returned.
This time, things became more serious. We visited multiple doctors and cancer centers in two states. He had a major surgery at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida called Pec-flap. It was followed by six weeks of healing, two of which were in the hospital. After the six weeks of healing from surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments would begin.
Unfortunately, our news went from bad to worse as the fastest-growing cancer continued to spread throughout his body into major organs during this healing window, preventing further treatments. It was only four months after feeling the lump in his neck in his neck that he passed away.
My two year old daughter began having dreams with Jesus and her daddy with messages like, "God is with us" and "Angels with swords are protecting us." God guides us through the dark with spiritual dreams and supernatural encounters.
I have wrestled with God and found Him faithful. It has been a refining and growing season. I have come out with a story to tell of an ever-present God who is with us in the darkest of nights and guides into the morning.
"It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me" (Daniel 4:2 NIV)
